Damn. Dan Inouye's term in the Senate began before I was born. He was there for nearly fifty years, the second-longest-serving Senator in history. It was an honor and a pleasure to vote for him when I could. A great American rests in peace tonight.

ETA: and sometimes anti-voting boneheads say "Why should I bother voting if it means nothing/isn't going to decide the election?"

Because then you'll never be able to feel a swell of pride in your chest about having cast your ballot for a man of these qualities. Even though his election was never in doubt.
